A crown (also called a “cap” or “jacket”) is used when there is not enough of your natural tooth structure to hold another filling. Crowns are also used for cracked teeth or endodontically treated teeth (“root canals”). A crown can strengthen and protect the remaining tooth, improving its appearance and giving it back its original shape and function.
A fixed bridge is an option used to fill in a space from a missing tooth or teeth. The teeth on either side of the bridge are prepared in the same way you would prepare a tooth for a crown. The bridge also has a false tooth called a pontic that fills the space and looks like a natural tooth.
