Digital X-rays used in our office give excellent detail and deliver 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays. The process is very similar to traditional X-rays but a small sensor is used that captures the dental image. This then gives an almost instantaneous image on the monitor which can be evaluated and enhanced to help in diagnosing necessary treatment.
Digital Panoramic X-ray
The digital panoramic X-ray takes a larger image of the entire mouth and jaws. This image is excellent for evaluating wisdom teeth, sinuses, teeth, jaw, and TMJ. This is usually taken every 5 years.
The diagnodent is an amazing tool used to help detect decay. The small wand has an attachment that helps detect decay in teeth by measuring density of the outer layer (enamel). Higher numbers mean the tooth has a higher chance of decay. This is an excellent tool to stop decay at its earlier stages so little problems do not become big issues.
The Velscope is an amazing device that helps look for oral cancer. A light is shined and a sensor increases diagnosis by penetrating the light several layers below the tissue surface. This lets us look, evaluate, and detect well beyond what the naked eye can see, or what can be palpated by hand. This is an invaluable tool used in all our exams.
